First diagnosed with Crohns
I had been on holiday in Ibiza with Tash and became ill, with stomach pains and bleeding. On my return i went to our GP, Dr. Elizabeth Holden, who is a great GP, she pretty much diagnosed colitis from my symptoms but hastily referred me to GWH for tests. I was under the care of Dr. Peter Hanson and the fantastic specialist gastro team of Jan Watson and Patsy Daly. The nursing staff and admin staff at GWH were great then and they all went on to become even more important in my life. Anyway, several tests later it was confirmed i had colitis. It was the beginning of my time on steroids and trying various different drugs. Oh boy life changed, our diets changed but the symptoms didn't ease! The next few years were terribly hard for us mentally and physically. We tried everything for the next 3 years including an astronauts diet for 8 weeks, no food whatsoever and i mean no food nadda nothing! Just these dreadful drinks that are designed to rest the bowel! (it answered the question about astronauts toilet habits whilst in space, they don't go!). Steroids steroids and oh more steroids that didn't work except to make me look like a Russian shot putter! Throughout the whole ordeal, if Jan Watson wasn't there I wouldn't have coped as well as I did.
